Kahne's 5th-Place Run Leads Team Valvoline at Pocono
LONG POND, Pa. (Aug. 3, 2009) -- Kasey Kahne led Team Valvoline in Monday's rain-delayed Pennsylvania 500. Driving the No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports Dodge Kahne posted a fifth-place result -- his fifth top-five of the season.
Kahne's finish was one of six top-20 results for Team Valvoline at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway. Matt Kenseth was 11th, Greg Biffle 15th, AJ Allmendiger 17th, Carl Edwards 18th and Jamie McMurray 20th. Allmendinger drove the No. 44 Valvoline Dodge.
"The team does an awesome job," said Kahne, who led twice for a total of 35 laps. "Kenny Francis (crew chief) and Keith Rodden (car engineer), everybody behind the scenes have been doing a really good job. Our pit stops are flawless. The guys do a great job...in and off pit road really quick...so thanks to them, we keep rolling. We just need to keep it up each week and get into the Chase."
With five races remaining before the top-12 drivers compete in the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship, Team Valvoline has four drivers inside the Chase cutline. Edwards is sixth, Kahne seventh, Kenseth 11th and Biffle 12th.
Monday's race winner was Denny Hamlin. Rounding out the top-five in order were: Juan Pablo Montoya, Clint Bowyer, Sam Hornish Jr. and Kahne.
In Saturday's races -- Edwards finished fourth in the Nationwide Series event at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa and Colin Braun was third in the Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.
